Stone Store
Designed by Wesleyan missionary John Hobbs and built in the 1830s by ex-convict William Parrot and Maori labour, the Stone Store initially housed and traded mission goods. After the Mission Station closed in 1848 it was bought by ex-missionary James Kemp, whose family traded in kauri gum and later leased it as a general store until 1976.
Today, the Stone Store offers a shopping experience like no other. New Zealand's oldest stone building sells authentic trade goods similar to items that were first traded in the early years of the 19th Century, along with a fabulous range of quality Kiwiana merchandise that cannot be bought under one roof anywhere else in the world.
